In 2019 we were presented with the amazing opportunity to adopt a vineyard in the vicinity of the province of Perugia, Italy. The 5000 square metres vineyard, called Pociarello Vecchio, grows a wide variety of grapes like the Italian Sangiovese and the French Merlot and Carbernet Sauvignon. We joined forces with a winemaker from winery Fontesecca – a little farm which produces organic wines independently in nearby Città della Pieve – to turn these beautiful grapes into two adventurous wines. The grapes at Pociarello Vecchio were picked in October 2021, pressed and stored, specifically, into large steal barrels at Fontesecca. After maturing for nine months the wines were bottled and individually numbered in the summer of 2022.
The name ‘Stranamore’ is the Italian title of Stanley Kubrick’s classic Dr. Strangelove from which our bar Strangelove derives its name and where the Stranamore wines are served as the wine of the house. The illustrations on the bottles were inspired by poster art featuring sultry depictions of Miss Scott, the only female character in Kubrick’s Dr. Strangelove.
